Terms of Service

Terms of Service

Last updated: [TODO — set on publication]

These terms are a contract between you and [TODO: company legal name, company number, registered address] ("iKnowTheUK", "we", "us"). By creating an account or buying a pass, you agree to them.

Please read them. We have kept them short and in plain English.

1. What iKnowTheUK is — and what it is not

iKnowTheUK is an independent study aid for people preparing for the Life in the UK Test.

We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to the Home Office, UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI), PSI Services, or TSO (The Stationery Office).

We do not run the real test. We do not book tests. To book the real test, use gov.uk only.

Our practice questions are original. They are written by us. They are not real exam questions. Using iKnowTheUK does not guarantee you will pass the real test (but see our pass guarantee in section 6).

2. Who can use iKnowTheUK

You must be at least 16 years old. You must give us a real email address. You are responsible for keeping your account secure. One account per person.

3. Free tier

You can use parts of iKnowTheUK for free, without registration. Free limits apply per account and per device. Do not try to bypass free limits with multiple accounts. We may restrict accounts that abuse the free tier.

4. The pass (paid access)

  • The pass costs £12.99. This price includes VAT.
  • It is a one-time payment. There is no subscription. We will never charge you again automatically.
  • It gives you 12 months of access to all paid features, starting from the date of purchase.
  • Access is digital only. Nothing is posted to you.
  • When your 12 months end, your access ends. Your account and progress data remain (see our Privacy Policy). You can buy a new pass if you wish.

We may change the price for new purchases. A price change never affects a pass you have already bought.

5. Refunds and the 14-day cooling-off period

Your refund rights are set out in our [Refund and Cancellation Policy](./refunds.md). In short:

  • UK law gives you a 14-day cooling-off period for digital content. At checkout, you tick a box agreeing to immediate access, which means you waive this right once access begins. This is explained clearly before you pay.
  • Our pass guarantee (section 6) is separate and more generous than the legal minimum.

6. Pass guarantee

If you prepare with iKnowTheUK and still fail the real test, we will refund you in full. The exact criteria:

You qualify for a full refund if all of the following are true:

  1. You completed at least 80% of your study plan in iKnowTheUK; and
  2. You completed at least 5 full mock tests in iKnowTheUK; and
  3. You then failed the real Life in the UK Test; and
  4. You claim within 60 days of your real test date.

How to claim: use the self-serve refund form in your account. It takes two clicks. We do not ask you to explain yourself and we do not argue.

Evidence: the test date on your profile plus your self-declared result. That is normally all we need. We reserve the right to ask for reasonable verification (for example, your test result notification) if we suspect abuse, and to refuse claims that are fraudulent.

One guarantee claim per pass. The refund is the full amount you paid, returned to your original payment method.

7. Acceptable use

Do not:

  • share your account or resell access;
  • copy, scrape, or republish our questions, lessons, or other content;
  • collect or submit real exam questions to us — we do not want them and will delete them;
  • use bots or automation against the service;
  • attack, probe, or overload the service;
  • use the service for anything unlawful.

We may suspend or close accounts that break these rules. If we close your account for abuse, we may withhold a refund to the extent the law allows.

8. Our content and intellectual property

Our questions, explanations, lessons, glossary, cheat sheets, mock tests, design, and software are our original work. They are protected by copyright and belong to us or our licensors. Your pass gives you a personal, non-transferable licence to use them for your own study. Nothing more.

Some factual content is derived from public sector information licensed under the Open Government Licence v3.0, and from our own paraphrase of facts in the official study materials. See our [Sources and disclaimers](./disclaimers.md).

9. Accuracy of content

We work hard to keep content accurate and aligned with the current handbook edition. But the handbook, the test, and immigration rules can change. We do not guarantee that any piece of content is error-free or current. Always check gov.uk for official requirements, dates, fees, and booking.

10. Availability

We aim to keep the service available at all times, but we do not promise uninterrupted access. We may take the service down for maintenance. If a prolonged outage stops you using a pass you paid for, contact us and we will put it right (for example, by extending your access).

11. Liability

Nothing in these terms limits our liability for fraud, for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, or for anything else that cannot be limited under UK law.

Subject to that:

  • We are not liable for the outcome of your real test, your immigration application, or any decision made by the Home Office or any other body.
  • We are not liable for indirect losses, lost profits, or losses we could not reasonably foresee.
  • Our total liability to you is capped at the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim.

Nothing in these terms affects your statutory rights as a consumer.

12. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. If a change is significant, we will email you and post a notice in the app before it takes effect. If you do not agree with a change, stop using the service and contact us about your pass.

13. Complaints

See our [Complaints Procedure](./complaints.md). Start with [email protected]. We aim to respond within 24 hours.

14. Governing law

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales. Disputes will be handled by the courts of England and Wales. If you live in Scotland or Northern Ireland, you may also bring proceedings in your local courts.
