Chapter 1: Values and Principles of the UK
Taking the Life in the UK Test
آخر تحقق: 15 July 2026
These are the testable facts for this section, written in our own words (the handbook text itself is Crown copyright — and reading facts twice beats re-reading prose anyway). Work top to bottom, then drill the section below.
What you need to know
- The Life in the UK Test consists of 24 questions covering all parts of the handbook.
- Questions are based on the whole handbook — any chapter or section can be tested.
- The test is usually taken in English, but arrangements can be made to take it in Welsh or Scottish Gaelic.
- The test is taken at a registered and approved Life in the UK test centre; there are about 60 test centres around the UK.
- The test can only be booked online, through the official government booking website.
- You cannot take the test at just any location — only at an approved centre.
- On test day you must take proof of identity and proof of your address; without correct documents you cannot sit the test.
- The test fee is paid when booking.
- The pass mark: you must answer enough of the 24 questions correctly (in the live test, 75% — i.e. 18 out of 24).
- Questions are based on ALL parts of the handbook, including any introductory and closing material stated as testable.
- If you pass, you keep your pass notification and use it in your settlement or citizenship application.
- Special arrangements exist for people with disabilities; contact the test provider when booking.
