Failed the test? It's a setback, not a verdict.

Plenty of people fail their first attempt and pass the next one comfortably. Nothing about your visa changes today. Here's the calm version of what happens now.

آخر تحقق: 15 July 2026

What happens now — the facts

  1. Your immigration status is unaffected. A failed test is not reported as a problem on your record; the requirement is simply still open.
  2. You can rebook after 7 days. Same booking process on gov.uk, same £50 fee, no limit on attempts.
  3. You won't be told which questions you missed — so the first prep step is rebuilding that information yourself.

Why people fail (it's usually one of three things)

  • Uneven coverage: strong on history, blank on courts and devolved governments — the test samples all five chapters.
  • Memorising answers, not facts: free quiz sites repeat the same items; the real test words things differently.
  • Time-pressure nerves: never having practised in an exam-like screen with a countdown.

The retaker plan (what we'd do in your position)

  1. Sit a diagnostic mock — 24 questions, timed, exam screen. It recreates the information the real test didn't give you: your per-chapter breakdown.
  2. Drill only the weak chapters. Re-reading everything is comfort, not strategy.
  3. Let missed questions come back via spaced repetition until they stick.
  4. Book the retake when your mocks are consistently 20+. Not before.

Retaking FAQ

Does failing affect my visa or application?

Failing the test has no effect on your current immigration status. It only means the knowledge requirement isn't ticked yet — your application simply waits until you pass.

How many attempts do I get?

Unlimited. You wait at least 7 days between attempts and pay £50 each time.

Do I find out which questions I got wrong?

No — you only get a result notification. That's why a diagnostic mock matters: it rebuilds the picture of where you actually lost marks.

Is the test different the second time?

The format is identical; the questions are drawn from the same handbook. Different questions, same territory — which is good news: fixing your weak chapters fixes the retake.
