ID requirements for the Life in the UK Test
Bring the same accepted identity document you used to book. It must be the original document; copies and screenshots are not accepted.

Accepted identity documents
- An eVisa share code, obtained from your UKVI account for the purpose of proving your immigration status for something else;
- A valid passport;
- A valid photo identity card from the EU, Switzerland, Iceland, Liechtenstein or Norway;
- A valid photo travel document (not an emergency travel document); or
- In the limited GOV.UK transitional arrangement, an expired UK BRP or BRC if you cannot access your eVisa. The test must fall within the published time limit and no later than 31 December 2026.
The identity details used for the booking must match. Bring the same original document; photocopies and screenshots are not accepted. If your identity is verified through an eVisa, GOV.UK says a physical document is not required.
No separate proof of address in the current guidance
The current GOV.UK test-day guidance does not list a bank statement, utility bill or other separate proof of address. Requirements can change, so check the primary source before booking and again before the test: Life in the UK Test on GOV.UK.
The golden rule
Booking details = document details. Name spelling, date of birth and document number must match exactly. If anything has changed since booking (new passport, name change), contact the test provider before the day.

ID FAQ
My passport is expired — can I still use it?
An expired passport is not accepted. A limited transitional rule may allow some expired BRP or BRC cards when an eVisa cannot be accessed; check the current GOV.UK conditions before booking.
The name on my booking doesn't match my ID exactly.
Contact the test provider through gov.uk before test day. A mismatch between booking and document is one of the most common reasons people are turned away without a refund.
Do I need proof of address?
The current GOV.UK test-day guidance requires the same original identity document used to book the test; it does not list a separate proof-of-address document.
Can I use a photocopy?
No. Bring the original identity document used for your booking, not a copy or screenshot.
